Water Company Information
The beginning and end of each season is always a good time to inspect your plumbing and make improvements. To Do:
~Check that you have no cracked pipes or any other leaks in the house.
~A running toilet or a leaky spigot can waste from 500 to thousands of gallons of water a day.
~Leaking pipes can cause water damage in, as well as, outside the house.
~As you consider updates to your home, keep this in mind:
~If you still have an old model toilet or shower head, know that they use much more water than the newer, more efficient ones.
~Problems discovered should NEVER be put off until the following spring.
~With the freezing and thawing of the ground, pipes take much more of a beating throughout the winter. Small problems become big problems very quickly when temperatures are below freezing.
~Remember that your shut off valve is very important in preventing water disasters.
~Even if you are here almost every weekend, you need to turn it off and on several times a year to prevent it from seizing.
~Once the valve has frozen, it often needs to be dug up and replaced. A few quick turns a year can prevent that and save you hundreds of dollars.
~Year-round it is a good idea to turn your water and your hot water heater off when not in residence.
